Window insulation
Fitted covers or panels that reduce heat loss and glare through a vehicle's windows overnight.
Window insulation refers to fitted covers, reflective panels, or custom-cut foam pieces placed against a vehicle's windows to reduce heat loss on cold nights and block glare or heat gain during the day. Unlike simple privacy curtains, insulated versions add a layer of thermal material rather than just blocking sight lines.
Vehicle windows lose heat much faster than insulated walls or a roof, so on cold nights, uninsulated glass can be one of the biggest sources of heat loss in a sleeping setup, working alongside pad R-value and bag rating rather than replacing either. Good window insulation also reduces the temperature difference driving overnight condensation.
When buying or making your own, prioritize a snug custom fit over a universal one, since gaps around the edges let both heat and light through and reduce the insulating effect significantly. A common mistake is relying on cheap reflective sunshades designed only for daytime heat and glare as a substitute for real insulation on genuinely cold nights.
