12V fridge
A compressor fridge that runs off a car socket or power station and holds a set temperature.
A 12V fridge uses a small compressor, similar in principle to a household fridge, to actively hold a chosen temperature rather than relying on ice like a cooler does. It plugs into a car's 12V socket, a portable power station, or sometimes a wall adapter, and can typically run colder and more consistently than ice allows.
Because it draws power continuously, a 12V fridge needs either a power station with enough watt-hours or a vehicle battery protected by a low-voltage cutoff, since compressor fridges left running on a parked car's battery for too long can drain it below starting voltage. Most units also let you set an exact target temperature rather than guessing based on how much ice is left.
When buying, check both the fridge's rated power draw and its interior capacity against your trip length and group size, and confirm the low-voltage cutoff is adjustable if you plan to run it from your car's battery. A frequent mistake is undersizing the power source, then being surprised the fridge stops holding temperature or drains a car battery overnight.
