Power source is the decision that shapes everything else about a camping fan. A fan that runs on a cordless tool battery you already own is the cheapest airflow you can buy and can also take mains power when a hookup exists, but it locks you into one brand's packs. Self-contained rechargeable fans avoid that and give a fixed runtime measured in hours, usually many hours at the lowest speed and far fewer at full output, so read the runtime at the speed you will actually use rather than the headline figure. Disposable-cell fans are the fallback and the worst value over a season. Airflow follows blade diameter more than motor claims, and the step from a 10 inch head to a 12 inch one is a real difference in a tent, though a larger head also takes more room in a packed vehicle. How the fan attaches is the underrated feature: flexible tripod legs that wrap a tent pole or a roof bar put air where you sleep, while a floor fan on a groundsheet mostly stirs dust. Check the noise on the setting you plan to run all night, since a fan you switch off at bedtime is not solving the problem, and look for a hook or magnet as a second mounting option.
